An ''''alter'''' or ''''alternate personality'''' is the medical term for a member of a multiple system deemed not to be the original personality of the body. As it implies that those in a multiple system are not real people, it is not generally used in the empowered or healthy multiplicity community and is generally viewed as an insult.
