Inheritors are vampires who believe their condition is genetic, and has been passed down through their bloodline or is the result of a mutation. This pseudoscientific position uses the language of science to justify vampirism, but not the scientific method. Those who hold this belief generally claim that science could understand all aspects of vampirism if it engaged in serious study of the condition, but make little to no effort towards such research themselves. Some versions of this belief posit the existence of original, "true" or classical vampires as the ultimate source of this genetic predisposition, now watered down through interbreeding.
